Polish Lawyer Gets Arrested

(MENAFN) Authorities in Warsaw detained a well-known Polish attorney on Sunday, suspecting him of fabricating warnings about planned assaults on Poland’s president and foreign minister. The case reportedly involves falsified communications, unlawfully obtained documents, and possession of ammunition.

Interior Minister Marcin Kierwinski announced on US social media platform X that the 48-year-old suspect allegedly posed as former senior officials in letters sent to government institutions. These letters claimed that preparations were underway for attacks against President Karol Nawrocki and Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski.

Investigators stated that the suspect attempted to make the threats appear authentic by attaching illegally acquired documents and items, while also trying to implicate innocent individuals. In one instance, prosecutors revealed that ammunition was enclosed with a letter.

Police arrested the man after entering a Warsaw apartment, where they confiscated laptops, mobile phones, USB drives, service badges, weapons, and ammunition. Officers also found identification cards, driver’s licenses, and residence permits belonging to other people.

A subsequent search of the suspect’s vehicle uncovered more ammunition along with what police described as ten artillery shells.

The suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed, now faces seven charges, including unlawful possession of weapons and ammunition and hiding documents belonging to others. If found guilty, he could be sentenced to as many as eight years in prison.
