Polish Lawmaker Rejects Israeli Call to Remove His Parliamentary Mandate
Konrad Berkowicz said in a post on social media platform X that Israel has no authority over Poland’s parliamentary decisions, stating: "It won’t be Israel deciding who can sit in the Polish parliament and who cannot," according to reports.
The dispute began after the Israeli embassy shared remarks from Israel’s Foreign Ministry accusing Berkowicz of having a “dubious past that includes public support for Nazism,” and calling for Polish authorities to take swift action to remove him from office. The embassy also referenced historical sensitivities, warning about the consequences of racism and antisemitism, as stated by reports.
In response, Berkowicz rejected the accusations and urged Polish authorities and the justice system to address what he called a false claim about his political record.
He also directed criticism toward Israeli leadership, making controversial remarks about the country’s government and referencing its prime minister, according to reports.
Berkowicz further argued that Poland, due to its history, would not remain indifferent to what he described as concerning developments in the Middle East, as stated by reports.
