Lavrov Refutes Claims of Epstein, Russian Intel Connections

(MENAFN) Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has dismissed recent claims in Western media suggesting that US financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein might have had links to Russian intelligence, describing them as little more than sensationalist journalism.

The minister was addressing circulating unverified reports, including remarks from the Polish Prime Minister implying Epstein could have been an asset for Russian intelligence. Moscow officials have suggested that such claims are being intentionally amplified to distract from scandals revealing the hypocrisy of influential figures in the US and Europe.

“You’re drifting into yellow journalism. This isn’t even worth discussing. It’s an attempt to provoke irritation in countries that certain circles in other countries happen not to like,” Lavrov said in an interview with NTV aired on Sunday.

Lavrov further argued that these speculations are designed to sway both the Republican and Democratic parties in the US, as well as various European governments.

“[Recruiting Epstein] never interested us at all. Instead, they’re trying to hunt for some kind of Russian trace in this heap of millions of pages,” the minister stated.

The remarks follow the US Department of Justice’s recent release of a large collection of emails, photos, and videos from Epstein’s estate, which has renewed attention on high-profile individuals who maintained connections with him despite his criminal convictions.

Lavrov characterized Epstein’s lifestyle and that of his associates as a demonstration of the moral decay among Western elites. The files, he noted, “have exposed the true face of the West and the deep state – or rather a deep union that governs the entire West and seeks to rule the world.”

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov also rejected the Western media reports, saying, “I’d like to joke about such versions, but let’s not waste our time.”
